Construction Opportunities in the Region

The Construction Sector is vibrant within the region and aims to seek opportunities for the this community, who may set up linkages, identify partners and to eventually forge strategic alliances for co-operation in construction projects to be implemented in IOR-ARC Member States.

Malaysia submitted a Concept Paper, "Frame Work for leveraging IOR-ARC Business Forum for Construction Sector" in which it proposed the formation of a separate "Focus Group" under the IOR-ARC Business Forum.  It was proposed in it's Concept Paper that the Focus Groups have parallel meetings and the decisions and outcomes of these meetings be tabled at the plenary session of Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum (IORBF)

Malaysia has subsequently successfully hosted the IOR-ARC Construction Business Conclave on 24-27 August, 2008 with the participation of Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sultanate of Oman and South Africa.  Among the themes that emerged from the discussion at the Conclave, was the need to host similar meetings to continue this initiative.
