MARITIME TRANSPORT COUNCIL (MTC)
The proposed Maritime Transport Council for Indian Ocean Rim
Association for Regional Cooperation is a regional specialized
agency that promotes and defends the interests of Member States to
facilitate Maritime Transport. It strives towards strengthening of
the Maritime Transport Cooperation in the IOR-ARC region.
A Task Force for the Establishment of a Maritime Transport
Council met on 19-20 October 2008 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman to
discuss the Draft Text for the establishment of the MTC.
The technical clarifications were discussed at the Senior
Officials Experts meeting for the MTC which took place on 27-28 May
2010, in Durban, South Africa. The final text for the establishment
of the MTC was adopted at the Tenth Meeting of the Council of
ministers in Sana'a, Republic of Yemen on 5th August
2010.
Currently, the Sultanate of Oman is in an advance stage of
implementing the text on Maritime Transport Council.
Sultanate of Oman has offered to host the Headquarters of the
Maritime Transport Council.
