Objectives of RCSTT
The Islamic Republic of Iran proposed the formation of the RCSTT
with the following objectives:
a. assisting Member States in the acquisition,
dissemination, assimilation and promotion of technologies;
b. promoting competitive approaches towards
technology commercialization;
c. undertaking research, policy review,
analysis of trends and conditions;
d. disseminating information and best practices
through offering techno-markets;
e. networking and partnership with international
organizations and other key stakeholders;
f. training national personnel, particularly
national scientists and policy analysts;
g. assisting Member States in establishing national
focal points in their territories;
h. facilitating the establishment of technology hubs
to accelerate advanced technology development through joint
efforts.
Functioning of RCSTT
The Centre is functioning under the terms of a Statute of the
IOR-ARC RCSTT. It is under the authority of the IOR-ARC Secretariat
and the IOR-ARC Council of Ministers and comprises an Advisory
Council of the Ambassadors of the IOR-ARC Member States based in
Tehran and the Secretary-General. There is a Scientific
Advisory Panel which reviews and discusses the subject matters
defined in the work plan and programme of the Centre and provide
its views and advice to the Centre.
The Centre is headquartered in Tehran and is hosted by the
Islamic Republic of Iran through the Ministry of Science, Research
and Technology and the Iranian Research Organization for Science
and Technology (IROST).
The current Director of the RCSTT isDr. Mahmoud Molanejad, from
the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Achievements of RCSTT
Since its inception, the Centre has initiated many programmes and
has undertaken to provide full hospitality, including airfares -
for experts from Member States to attend some of these events.
1- International Workshop on 'Empowerment of Women
through Science and Technology Interventions' 14-16 December 2008,
Tehran, Iran
The Workshop was jointly organized by Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)
and the IOR-ARC RCSTT and was attended by about 60 experts and
senior professionals from 14 countries. Participants came
from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka
and Tanzania and also other NAM Member States.
2- Workshop on Institutional Process and Initiatives for
Developing Countries Positions for WTO Negotiations-Tehran,
Iran, September 2008
IOR-ARC RCSTT organized this workshop with the cooperation of
the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
3- International Workshop on 'Nanotechnology - Present
Status and Future Prospects in Developing Countries', Kashan, Iran,
18-20 May 2009
This Workshop was jointly organized by Non-Aligned Movement
(NAM) and the RCSTT and was attended by participants from India,
Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Yemen and
other NAM Member States.
4- The training workshop on "Competitiveness
Strategies and Technology Access and Adoption by SMEs in OIC
Countries and IOR Region - Followed up with a "Regional Business
Matching" Islamic Republic of Iran, 22-25 November,
2009
IOR-ARC RCSTT organized this workshop with the cooperation of
the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The Workshop was attended by
the senior policy makers and SMEs experts from the IOR region,
including representatives fromEgypt, Sri LankaandMalaysia.
5- The First IOR-ARC Regional Biotechnology Exhibition
2010 "Iran Biotech 2010", Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, April
13-15, 2010
This Exhibition was attended by more than 100 participants from
among the Iranian R & D Centers, the Science and Technology
Park, Universities and Academic Centers, and private companies and
institutes involved in various trends of biotechnology inIran. The
regional section of the Exhibition was attended by 6 Member States
from the IOR region viz.South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri
Lanka, Kenya,andIndiaand two other countries from Asia that is
Pakistan and Nepal. Participants showcased the latest
biotechnology achievements of their countries during the
exhibition.
6- The Regional Experts Meeting on "Herbal Medicine
Processing including Extraction, Standardization, Processing,
Formulation, Packaging and Commercialization" June 19-21, 2010
Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran
The regional section of the Meeting was attended by 12
participants from IOR-ARC Member States viz.Sri Lanka, India,
Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, and three other
countries from Asia (Pakistan, Philippines,Vietnam, andHungaryfrom
EU) and alsoChina, a Dialogue Partner of IOR-ARC participants
introduced, discussed and showcased the latest achievements in
different fields of medicinal plants and herbal medicines of their
countries during the Meeting.
7- Regional Expert Meeting/Training Workshop on
"Monitoring Global Environmental changes through the Application of
Remote Sensing for OIC and IOR-ARC Member Countries", 24-27 October
2010
The Regional Experts Meeting and Training Workshop on
"Monitoring Global Environmental Changes Through the Application of
Remote Sensing for OIC and IOR-ARC Member States" was
organized in 24-27 October 2010 in Tehran, Islamic Republic
of Iran. This meeting was jointly organized by the IOR- ARC
Regional Centre for Science and Technology Transfer, the Iranian
Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST), and the
Islamic Development Bank. The Workshop was attended by 10
participants from IOR-ARC Member States includingBangladesh, Sri
Lanka, Thailand, Yemen, Tanzania, Indonesia, MalaysiaandOmanand
several participants fromIslamic Republic of Iran; they have been
mostly selected from among the R & D Centres, Science and
Technology Parks, Universities and Academic Centres, and Private
Companies and Institutes involved in various areas of global
changes and various applications of remote sensing in these
areas.
8- Third Fajr Regional Inventions and Innovations
Exhibition, 7-10 February 2011
The 3rd FAJR Regional Innovations and Inventions Exhibition
2011, Tehran, Islamic was held inIslamic Republic of Iran, February
7-10, 2011 as a joint Collaboration between the National Elites
Foundation of theIslamic Republic of Iranand the IOR-ARC
RCSTT.
The programme was announced and circulated among all Member States
through theIOR-ARC Secretariat in Mauritius. 20 participants have
been selected from IOR- Member States:Bangladesh(two
participants),India(two participants),Indonesia(7
participants),Malaysia(3 participants),Mauritius(1 participant) and
5 other participants from non-Member States, i.e. Colombia (one
participant) Philippines (one participant). In total, 20 exhibitors
from among the IOR-ARC Member States and the other countries
attended the event and were provided by free exhibition space, and
other hospitalities.

The Intra-Regional Workshop on ICT and Community E-Centres
Development for Poverty Reduction and Business Services Promotion
among the OIC countries and IOR-ARC Region was
held in Tehran,Islamic Republic of Iran, March 14-16, 2011. The
workshop was organized jointly by theIOR-ARC Regional Centre for
Science and Technology Transfer (RCSTT), theIranian Research
Organization for Science and Technology (IROST), and theIslamic
Development Bank (IDB)with cooperation
of UNESCAPInformation and Communications
Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division.
The Workshop was attended by 10 participants fromIOR-ARC Member
Statesand Dialogue Partner includingBangladesh, China, India,
Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South AfricaandTanzania, and several
participants fromIslamic Republic of Iran.
